Sob, I'll have to sell my car. Well, I don't HAVE to. I could ship it to France. But there's annoying bureaucratic paperwork in the way of doing that easily. And it is not like there aren't any big Mercedes cars in Europe, but in a lot of places it would be hell to park. City streets and parking spaces just tend to be made for smaller cars. Not that it can't be fun with a car that is extravagantly big. In Denmark I had a huge old American car, and it was sort of fun to fill the whole street, and have a 7 liter car when normal people had a 1.3 liter car. But at this point I think I'll more be in the mood for a normal size Citroen or something. So, my 1989 Mercedes 420SEL is for sale, and it kind of needs to happen quickly. I just put it in the papers for $6500 with that in mind. But for you, web special, how about $5500? Pretty excellent condition. V8, 4.2L, all power, all leather, airbags, ABS, blah, blah. And you can put your own last name on the license plate.

Heheh, yeah, in California everything is leather and silk.

Having moved countries and continents several times, it might be a really interesting piece of familiarity, comforts, whatever to have your beloved car with you in a new place, culture, etc.

Funny...when I first saw this, my immediate thought was "I'd guess Ming would have a more gas-consumption conscious environmentally hip car". And, I dig your car and it goes great with you in the picture.

It would chew through the gas in France tho", at 3X the price.

Heheh, yeah, maybe it should be a Prius or an Insight I should be driving. But gas guzzling L.A. here is overflowing with Mercedeses and Cadillacs. Actually this one is not bad on gas at all. But with the French gas prices, that suddenly becomes a huge factor.

16 Jun 2003 @ 05:58 by george dafermos @ : when will u be coming to france?
Hi Ming,

I knew you planned to move back to europe, but I had no idea you were about to settle down in france. So, when will you be coming? If you arrive in the beginning-mid of July, you should seriously consider coming to this year's Libre software Meeting in Metz (9-12 July). As far as I know, it's the largest annual gathering of libre software people in Europe and it's gonna be a blast. Let me know if you're interested and there may be still time to organise something. I'm sure there're plenty of people who are interested in this OSEP you're involved with. Anyway, I hope you find someone to unload this Merc of yours. Sorry, but i don't really like Mercs myself, let alone they're practically useless for europe unless you can deal with the everyday frustration that such a massive car will give you in french roads.

Damn, I'm not arriving before July 15th, so I'll have to miss that one. But, soon enough, I'll pay close attention to cool events all over Europe.

20 Jun 2003 @ 13:10 by ming : Selling cars
Heheh, selling my car is harder than I thought as well. There are so many of them here in L.A. that they don't sell for all that much. I'm starting to get nervous.

21 Jun 2003 @ 12:26 by Max @ : trading your Benz for my 2001 Citroen
I got a BEAUTIFUL Citroen Xsara, 2001..
wonna trade your Benz?
The Xsara is currently parked at the Musuem Ipiranga, Sao Paulo, Brazil.
A bit of a hike, but it would be worth it!

22 Jun 2003 @ 03:50 by ming : Citroen
Heheh, I'd go for that, actually. Incidentally it was a Citroen Xsara we rented when we were in Toulouse and I kind of liked it. So, I'd just drive it across the atlantic, and then you can fly my Benz down to Sao Paulo.
