Hm, nothing I've felt like blogging about for several days. OK, I had other things to do too, but also nothing inspired me. I just looked through more than 1000 posts in my news feed aggregator, and there was nothing I was inspired to pass on and say anything about. Not that there was anything wrong with the material. Just didn't fit me right now. But I did a few posts on FutureHi, which I'm a contributor to. And recently I've turned my old website, World Transformation into a blog. In part because I was feeling bad about it. It shows really high in the search engines and lots of sites link to it, but I hadn't really touched the content for years. Lots of dead links. And my interests aren't quite the same as they were in 1995. So I made the front page a blog, but one where I'm mainly passing on posts from some suitable feeds, and my own, without much new material. A bit of recycling. I fixed up my homemade aggregator so I can just click next to a bunch of posts and then schedule them for posting on successive days.

Oh, and I think I'll make a wiki program. Nothing much wrong with the existing ones, but I have some other things in mind, and it would need to integrate with my weblog program somehow. It is probably stupid, as, as usual, what I think I want to do sounds simple if I think it through, but it always takes longer than planned to get the details right. And I already have quite a few software modules I've made where I kind of need to fix up the details to make them more widely useful. Anyway, more on that later.

Drove to Cahors today. We finally found Chateau de Caix, Prince Henrik of Denmark's wine chateau. We tasted a couple of the wines and brought back a box of the cheapest one, which wasn't too bad. Great area, by the banks of the Lot river.

since nothing much is going on, is there any chance you can have some more variety of articles listed on the front page of NCN? Most are by men, and many aren't original materials, just articles written by other people. How about some more balance in those listed? Thank you.

21 May 2004 @ 18:30 by istvan : Yeah.. Ming,
Nothing much happening here at NCN either.
Same old chatting.
Now Amrani complaining her "oroginal" works are not on the front page.
The Ladies are complaining words like Man should be censored.
Same old stuff.
Boring wars all ower the earth.
Maybe it is time to do something.
The silence is deafening before the storm.

22 May 2004 @ 03:42 by jstarrs : Just to balance...
...it'd be good to point out, again, that Invictus is in Spain visiting Shakti. I kinda think that's something.
Not to mention all the other people that have physically met up, here.
Silence, between friends, is cool, too.

22 May 2004 @ 06:57 by ming : Things going on
Of course there are things going on. For me, when I feel like that, it is probably just a hint that I need to look in different places, or pay attention to what's going on a little closer to me. Some times I find great stimulation in many abstract or technical things others might write. But other times I don't.

22 May 2004 @ 07:01 by ming : NCN front page
So, I'm selecting the postings from the NCN newslogs that also show on the front page, while Jazzolog is recovering from surgery. He normally takes care of that part, and he does that well. And apparently it is not an easy task. In part because I actually don't normally read everything in the those logs, and probably also because my criteria are a little different. So, several people seem to have a problem with how I balance it, or not. I could of course make it so that people could self-select what goes there. Hmmm.

22 May 2004 @ 13:19 by vibrani : Thanks for answering, Ming
Yes, people could select but then what if everybody wanted to do that? Then it becomes another communications page. I volunteered to help, and my offer is still open, as I do read most of the other logs and I feel I can offer a balance. Or we can wait until Jazz if recovered and ready to do it, again.

The way kuro5hin does it is it lets members vote for what goes to the front page.

23 May 2004 @ 09:58 by ming : Voting
Hm, yeah, voting might work. There's voting for various other things in NCN, like books, websites, films and articles, but not weblogs.

23 May 2004 @ 15:48 by vibrani : The only thing with voting is
that not everybody reads every new article on every log (to be fair). Posting several articles by only one person on the front page (and they're not even original pieces written by the member) isn't exactly balanced.

23 May 2004 @ 16:24 by swan : I think Richard did a great job
of showing a cross section of what is being written at NCN. I don't feel the current front page shows a representative cross section. I would be for whatever would be best for making that happen. There is a lot of creative, original writing going on here that is being missed on the front page.

"The Ladies are complaining words like Man should be censored. "
Excuse me Istvan but this is the 21st century. Why don't you join us.

I don't think voting is practical and it could turn into a popularity contest if we are not careful. Ming, some of us just want more balance on the front page and feel it might be more inviting for someone new looking at the site. Granted we all have different tastes and all that needs to be balanced. I favor personal writing over cut and paste. But I also don't mind cut and paste if there is personal writing to accompay it, much like you do.
Both sexes need to learn from each other and see the different views for better understanding.

I didn't complain about MY original works not being on the front page. (And if you checked the front page in the past, many of my articles were already listed.) I talked about everyone's logs. You have an on-going tendency to make up stories and hold grudges, and you have no problem naming people when you make up stories about them. Why not write a real original story of your own and maybe it will end up on the front page? No one said anything about censoring Man. We asked for balance.
