If we simply could keep track of which stuff is good and which is bad, things would be much easier. We aren't good at it, and for that matter, the manufacturers of stuff don't help us very much. In this video I present a Christmas present, a wine bottle opener, which just happens to work really well. It is ergonomic, the motor is strong, the battery lasts for a long time, the foil cutter actually does the job. But it is a no name brand Chinese thing, so it is hard for me to even recommend it to anybody.
After some search, and some help from a friend, I figured out that my wine opener is from Dongguan BeneFit Commodity Co.. Unfortunately they don't have that exact same model any longer. Was it a fluke that they made a great product, or do they do it consistently? I don't know.

yo ming... ed here swanny just curious on this internet of things thing, i see both or thrice good, bad and indifferent aspects to it. wonder what your take on it would be or is, actually just thinking about it gives me a headache..... but i think it seems to lack a democratic or humane aspect to it.....thanks for the recent articles... wish i could dance but got this strange rhythm from a disability. a stroke at the age of 2 from an iron deficiency. take care. ed swanny in canada

There's no automatic magic in an Internet Of Things, but it could potentially be a very good thing, if done right. The promise is that we can extend our awareness over a much wider area, and that our things will work for us, even when we aren't paying attention. Your kitchen letting you know that you didn't turn off the gas. The dishwasher letting the washing machine know that it is done, so it now can take its turn.
But just because things potentially could tell you stuff doesn't mean that they will. Like in my example above, I have a great product, but nobody bothered to make clear where it came from or how I could get more. Most manufacturers stop caring about their own products the moment they replace them with a new model, which they do often. Would it help if my bottle opener had some chip in it? Possibly, but only if somebody cares enough about making that chip do something that is useful to me, letting me know what I'd like to know. That might possibly not be in the manufacturers interest to do.
